As a resident and small business owner, I am very disappointed that Senate Bill 687 is even being discussed and has come to a committee vote. What is more important, the salaries of veterinarians or the killing of homeless animals?

If this bill is passed it will increase South Carolina’s very high killing rate of homeless cats and dogs.

Who will end up paying for more animals within our county shelters?

The taxpayers.

I personally spend thousands of dollars with my local veterinarian for my cats and dogs. However, if I want to help my community by fixing a feral cat community or spaying a stray dog, I should have access to reasonable, lower costs at a municipal shelter or rescue operation.

I have been saving taxpayers money by stopping these animals from reproducing and keeping them out of our overcrowded, high-kill shelters.
