When she was first lady, Lady Bird Johnson accomplished the task of beautifying the country’s highways and byways with wildflowers.

Later, when Jim Martin served two terms as governor of North Carolina (1985-1993), his wife Dottie Martin made it her goal to plant flowers, wild and domesticated, on the roadsides of North Carolina. As you drive through North Carolina and the beautiful mountains, you will see the joy that the flowers add.

As we look at the drab scenery of chopped down trees along 1-26 would it be too much to ask for some flowers, either wild or domesticated? Surely, that would add some joy and not create any problems with visibility, or any traffic hazards.
