We want to correct misinformation contained in the April 29 letter to the editor titled “Take the tests.”
It is not true that a student receives a zero on standardized tests administered by our district if the student does not take the test. In fact, the student receives no score.
For placement and programming decisions, our school administrators rely on a variety of assessment and other information about students. Standardized test scores are but one of the factors used to guide these decisions.
The letter writer also indicated that colleges will see zeroes for high school students who do not take standardized tests; this is also not true. Again, no score will be reported in such instances.
