I am an older white South African. I lived for many years in Rhodesia and served in the Rhodesian Army.

When I saw the CNN news of the church shooting at a black church in Charleston I was appalled. I would have been appalled if this had happened anywhere, but that it happened in a church prayer meeting makes this incident even more appalling.

When I saw a picture of the alleged perpetrator on CNN, I immediately recognized the two flags on his clothing. Then I was even more appalled.

As a former Rhodesian, all I can say is, “Not in our name.” As a believer my heart goes out to my fellow believers who have had to endure such a shocking hate crime.

Regarding this incident I say to any and every white supremacist, “Not in the name of Jesus.”
