State Sen. Paul Thurmond’s bold and timely words to the Senate regarding the removal of the Confederate flag deserve our thanks. I sent him an email expressing my views as a Christian on this subject and the offense it brings to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

He clearly described the despicable actions of the past and the need for us to forever separate ourselves from the “spirit” that befell this state in the time before, during and after the Civil War.

Sorrow and repentance from our past provide the gateway toward living a new life, with new attitudes, and the action that follows is the evidence that we are sincerely making steps towards love and righteous living.
