In a Sept. 16 opinion piece Sean McGarvey argues that we should invest in the construction of oil pipelines because it will create over 100,000 high-paying construction jobs. What he fails to mention is that if we invested the same amount of money in the construction of solar and wind power production systems we would create far more jobs.

Even if we subtract the jobs lost in the fossil fuel industry by investing in the construction of more renewable energy systems, we still end up with a net increase in jobs. Continuing to invest money in the fossil fuel industry is bad for the environment and bad for the economy.
