I was interested to see that the University of Georgia recently banned the wearing of “hoop skirts in the spring” because of their offensive nature (“Begone, the Southern belle,” Elizabeth Boyd, Sept. 21).

Hoop skirts. In the spring.

Really?

What’s next in this land of liberty? Grits?

You better hide them under your scrambled eggs the next time you eat out. You don’t want to offend anyone.

And how about Hoppin’ John? Lock your doors on New Year’s Day. And for extra safety, never say “y’all” anywhere near a college campus.
