There is a service that seems to go unnoticed until you need it. It is called the State Highway Emergency Program or SHEP. It assists motorists who are experiencing mechanical problems with their autos on the highway.
I recently had a tire shred near the Don Holt Bridge. My disabled vehicle was in the emergency lane just inches from the main traffic. I know how to change a tire but it wasn’t feasible being so close to traffic. The traffic passing was literally shaking my car.
Then a SHEP vehicle came to my aid. Jason Powell changed my tire and had me back on the road in no time — and all for no fee.
These employees work hard and sometimes their safety is compromised. Thank you, Mr. Powell, and my utmost respect to the SHEP program.
