Why is Sen. Lindsey Graham proposing legislation that would hurt South Carolina?

Why are conservatives in the Senate at it again? They’re trying to rush a vote on their harmful Graham-Cassidy health care repeal bill.

They want to vote soon without a Congressional Budget Office assessment of how many people would lose their health care because of this repeal. An earlier version of the bill was estimated to cost over 20 million Americans their health care and remove protections from even more.

Here’s what we know about the bill that will take away our access to affordable care to give more tax dollars to the rich:

It eliminates Obamacare subsidies that lower premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

It eliminates Medicaid expansion funding, which 31 states use to provide coverage for residents with incomes up to about $16,000.

It loosens protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

It would allow carriers to charge enrollees more based on their medical histories. So younger, healthier folks could see their premiums go down, but sicker Americans could find themselves priced out of policies.

Let’s have Medicare for All or a public option that should have been put in place in the beginning.
