I am writing to share some exciting but bittersweet news. After over 10 years working in the offices of the Charleston County Department of Social Services (CCDSS), HALOS has established its own office in a new location.
The move will allow HALOS to expand and hire additional staff to manage a new component of our successful Kinship Care Program. Through a grant from the Duke Endowment and the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, HALOS (Helping And Lending Outreach Support) is conducting a pilot program that will provide in-depth case management for kinship families to ensure that children can continue to live safely in the home of a loving family member and not enter the foster care system.
This case management program will complement our existing services for kinship families that include home visits, education about existing resources, referrals for services, advocacy, support group meetings and family-fun events.
We are working with an implementation team of volunteers in fields of child welfare and social services, along with a research consultant who will be tracking progress to ensure that we are effectively meeting the needs of families and building on family strengths for the greatest success.
We continue to work in partnership with CCDSS to provide resources for child victims of abuse and neglect. Our core mission and programs remain the same, and we now have space to add staff to meet the overwhelming needs of children who live in the care of a grandparent or relative in our community.
The growth and expansion of HALOS is possible because of the support of the CCDSS, its staff and donors who have championed the needs of children and supported efforts to ensure these needs are met.
We are sad to leave CCDSS but excited to offer additional services to kinship families so that children have what they need to thrive. Our new address is 4995 LaCross Road, Suite 1250, North Charleston. Our new phone number is 843-990-9570. Please call or come see us at our new location.
