No one has ever told the federal government that it was under, or could be under, cyber attack. It will be of interest to see if the Justice Department and White House pursue the cyber breach at the Office of Personnel Management, involving current and retired employees’ data files, that could contain up to 780 different pieces of information, with the same ardor it investigated the IRS and Benghazi fiascoes or as it does when trying to collect a big fine from a corporation.
The hacked data include information on congressional staffers (no wonder Harry Reid is upset), the FBI and CIA and also other sensitive job descriptions. Sadder yet, this apparently went on for four months before being discovered.
And the government said that Target Corp. was remiss in its handling of people’s personal information.
