I understand that SCE&G is closing its 141 Meeting Street office.

A little brief history: The building is the oldest utility administrative building that has been continuously in use in the United States. The building has been in continued use since the horse drawn trolley and manufactured gas which began in the mid 1800s, (gas 1846, transportation 1861, electricity 1881).

About 35 years ago I was approached about the possibility of the building being donated to the Gibbes Museum of Art next door.

It would be a good gesture if it could happen in today’s time frame.
