Every now and again we witness a random act of kindness and show of compassion that needs to be shared with our citizens. Such is the purpose of this letter.

On May 2, I attended a funeral in Mount Pleasant, a very sad event.

The funeral procession left the church for the cemetery. It made its way down Coleman Boulevard, across Houston Northcutt and Highway 17 on to Mathis Ferry Road to the cemetery.

What struck me and my son was the number of cars that pulled over and stopped out of respect. I would say that a full 80 percent of the vehicles did so.

My son commented: “Sort of reaffirms your faith in humanity.”

That it did.

So to the citizens of Mount Pleasant and those traveling by us on Saturday, my heartfelt thanks for your thoughtfulness.
