People are angry. Elected officials write laws that they themselves don’t have to follow and forget about the very promises that got them elected. I get it.
The Folly Beach City Council recently voted to double members’ salaries following the next election. It was not done as part of the budgetary process, and would not be an incremental increase.
Wouldn’t it be great if the ordinary citizen had the power to do that?
What would the council members who voted to double their own pay think about the waitress or laborer doubling their bills?
Folly voters, it’s supposed to be about service to the community and accountability to the people.
Remember that as you cast your vote in April.
