I am writing in response to the Jan. 27 letter titled “Nightmare ticket.” I believe the goal of Americans should be to know everything about the person they vote for. I want to know his beliefs.

As a Christian, I know religious beliefs do in fact affect decisions. This is not to say Christians make better decisions than non-believers, but what Christians are taught helps my decision at the polls.

Thank God we have the Constitution that protects our freedoms, including our right to free speech, and does not prevent anyone from running for public office based on religion.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” — John Adams

Other great leaders of this country have said the same. Religion gives way to morals, something this nation’s leaders have long been lacking.

I don’t believe we are a secular state. The basis of our nation was built upon the belief in God and His gift of free will. I hope no one is scared away at polling time.
