My daughter was accompanying my granddaughter on a college tour in the Philadelphia, Pa., area recently when the tragic shooting occurred at Emanuel AME Church.

Knowing that they were from Charleston, one of the local citizens remarked, “Well, I guess we’ll have another of those ‘Ferguson,’ ‘Baltimore’ riots.”

Whereupon my daughter responded, “No we won’t. Charleston is the Holy City and that is not the way we respond to such tragedies.” And, from what I have seen so far, the outward love shown by our citizens toward their fellow man far outweighs all of the hate and destruction we saw in those two aforementioned cities.

God bless you, Charleston! I am so proud to live here.
