A man loses his life over a broken tail light? Thank God for the person who had the presence of mind to video the unwarranted shooting of Walter Scott.
I am fairly confident that former police officer Michael Slager would not have been arrested had it not been for the video.
We need major recruitment, evaluation and training reform in many police departments in our country in addition to periodic, comprehensive behavioral evaluations during an officer’s career (all people change over time).
As a former police officer, I strongly admire the professionalism of most of our officers, but let’s face it: There is not just one bad apple in any large organization, including police departments.
All of our citizens deserve better.
