I do not believe that the gentleman who has been camping in the Francis Marion National Forest for months as stated in the Feb. 23 article isn’t having some impact there, despite what the story says.
Where does he dump his trash? Everyone generates some refuse. And if he is not at a campsite with hook-ups, where does he dump his holding tank?
Boaters are required to have a waste holding tank, inspected to ensure compliance, and are fined if they don’t comply. And they have to pay to evacuate the tank at an approved marina — all to use federally regulated waterways, including the ocean. We do this willingly to protect the environment we use.
Campers should be thoroughly regulated. After all, that’s my forest, too.
