Twenty-five years to grow and 25 minutes to mutilate. I bought a live oak tree in 1992 for my husband as a 15-year anniversary gift. It was the biggest one I could carry and plant at that time.

We recently received notice that the electric company would have tree trimmers in our neighborhood to clean branches off the power lines. Little did we know that meant cutting large C shapes out of the trees. My tree hadn’t even reached the power lines but it is now basically cut in half.

If I wanted to cut this tree it would require permits and approval of council but the so-called professionals can come in and mutilate trees without approval other than a contract allowing them to trim. I don’t have 25 years left to see what was once a beautiful tree become that again.
