I am writing in response to the Sept. 17 letter regarding caring for children as much as animals.

As the founder of a local animal rescue, Eunoia Rescue, I agree with the letter writer in saying that the heartbeats of our children are far more important than the heartbeats of our animals. However, the point of fighting for animals’ rights isn’t to neglect the youth of society.

We (animal rights activists) are just giving to the community in the best way we know how. There are many helpful organizations supporting many different causes, but one organization isn’t necessarily better than the other; it’s just people following their passion.

I admire the writer for having such devotion to our unborn and small children. I will be making a donation to the letter writer’s organization.
