“Something there is that don’t love a wall.”

— Robert Frost, “Mending Wall”

With the U.S. fertility rate near zero and expected to decline, the perpetual growth folks might be alarmed at the prospect of a wall, while those advocating negative population growth should be elated.

However, according to the Pew Research Center more Mexicans are leaving the United States than entering (a net loss of 140,000 between 2009 and 2014). It would be ironic if a wall on our southern border kept folks in rather than out.

Imagine some Vladimir Putin standing on the southern side of the Rio Grand admonishing an American president, “Mr. Trump, tear down this wall.”

“Before I built a wall I’d ask to know what I was walling in or walling out.”

— Robert Frost, “Mending Wall”
