Help library by helping its Friends

The Charleston Friends of the Library supports the Charleston County Public Library system in its mission to connect our diverse community to information, foster lifelong learning, and enrich lives.

We raise money to fund more than 4,000 programs sponsored annually by the library, including Summer Reading.

To accomplish our goal of advocating for and enhancing the library system, we provide opportunities for the community to invest in their public library through donations of time, money, and books.

The Friends accept donations of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs at all 16 branches of the Charleston County Public Library, all year long.

We also receive library discards that meet our sales criteria. We have volunteers at the Main Library Monday-Friday that sort these donations and library discards to prime them for resale through our book sales in the community and online.

Sometimes we have multiple copies of one book, other times the book might have a broken spine, be missing pages, or is simply outdated. For those reasons, we have books that do not meet the standards for our book sales.

Those that are still in readable condition find a second home in over 50 area organizations such as Teachers’ Supply Closet, Halos, Junior League of Charleston, Bookworm Angels and Trident Literacy Association.

We thank Charleston County for its support through these book donations, Friends memberships, book sale purchases, and volunteer hours.

Your help makes these valuable programs at your Charleston County Public Library possible.
