MIAMI — Forecasters say Tropical Depression Ophelia is expected to strengthen slowly over the next couple of days but the storm poses no immediate threat to land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Ophelia had maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph (56 kph) Wednesday. Tropical Storm Ophelia formed about a week ago and then weakened. It regenerated Tuesday and is moving northwest about 330 miles (531 kilometers) east of the Northern Leeward Islands.
Tropical Storm Philippe is far from land with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph). The storm is expected to weaken during the next day or two.
In the Pacific, Hurricane Hilary has weakened to a Category One storm with winds of 90 mph (145 kph). Hilary is not expected to affect Mexico’s coast.
