COLUMBIA — There’s a new commander of South Carolina’s Highway Patrol.
The Department of Public Safety said yesterday that Lt. Col. Michael Oliver is taking over as interim chief. Oliver replaces Col. Kenny Lancaster, who said he was retiring effective December 27 after 23 years.
Oliver has been with the Highway Patrol for more than 30 years.
Last week, state Attorney General Alan Wilson ended a months-long investigation into Lancaster without identifying any wrongdoing. The investigation stemmed from a Beaufort woman’s allegations that she and Lancaster began an affair in 1992 and that, when she married and ended the affair, the married Lancaster harassed her trooper-husband out of jealous retaliation.
The woman’s husband was fired in 2008.
