Officer injured in crash on Ashley Phosphate Road

North Charleston Police and fire and rescue crews worked to clear the intersection of Ashley Phosphate Road and Patriot Boulevard Friday morning following a wreck involving an unmarked police car.

A minor crash between an unmarked police car and a Toyota sedan closed eastbound Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston this morning.

The wreck was reported just before 9 a.m. at the intersection with Patriot Boulevard.

Both the Toyota Corolla and the unmarked Chevrolet Impala sustained front-end damage.

"The officer was traveling down Ashley Phosphate Road near Patriots Boulevard when the driver of a Toyota pulled out in front of him causing a collision," police spokesman Spencer Prior said.

Prior said the officer was taken to St. Francis Hospital. The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

Crews were clearing the wreckage and planned to reopen the road by 10 a.m.
