HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Some Hilton Head Island residents object to building a 950-foot walkway through some marsh to connect a small creek to high ground.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/w1pHnE) that the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management says the boardwalk meets state requirements and will not block access to the Intracoastal Waterway. The agency says neighbors were notified earlier and nobody submitted a comment.
The state has a limit of 1,000 feet for boardwalks built to reach the water
Jeff Myers wants to build the boardwalk and told the newspaper that any concerns about the project have been considered by the state agency.
But neighbor Larry Jordan says any structure that long would hurt the environment.
