Force Protection employee burned
A maintenance worker at Force Protection Inc. was burned Saturday morning while making electrical repairs at the company's Ladson plant, authorities said.
A short-circuit occurred around 9 a.m., burning the man's arms from his elbows to his hands, Charleston County sheriff's Maj. John Clark said. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment, he said.
The plant, which produces blast-resistant military vehicles, was shut down for about two hours as a precaution while officials checked to make sure there were no further problems, said Tommy Pruitt, the company's communications director. Officials aren't sure if the problem was caused by a transformer or fuses, he said.
The company did not release the worker's name, but Pruitt said the man's injuries did not appear to be severe.
