As losses mount for The Citadel’s basketball team, Mike Groselle keeps on trucking.
Groselle, the Bulldogs’ center, has led the Southern Conference in scoring and rebounding for much of the season. As Georgia Southern comes to McAlister Field House tonight, he ranks second in scoring (17.2 points per game) and first in rebounding (9.5 per game).
With five games left in the regular season, the 6-8, 238-pound junior has a chance to become just the fourth player in the last 59 seasons to lead the SoCon in both categories. He racked up his 12th double-double of the season in Thursday night’s loss to Davidson, twice as many as any other player in the league.
But with The Citadel (4-20, 1-12) almost certain to finish in last place in the SoCon, does Groselle have a shot at the league’s player of the year award? The odds are against him, but it has happened before.
