Cecilia Slowinski, a professional dancer and dance teacher, died Wednesday. She was 59.
Slowinski, who lived in North Charleston, graduated from the College of Charleston and received a master's degree in dance choreography from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
She boasted a dance career that included the Harkness Youth Company, Radio City Ballet Company and the New Jersey Ballet. In Charleston, Slowinski danced with the Robert Ivey Ballet, where she also helped choreograph and direct select performances.
In addition to her dancing career, Slowinski taught dance at the Charleston County School of the Arts, where she had worked since its founding in 1995. She was a semifinalist for the Charleston County School District Teacher of the Year program in 2004.
Slowinski is survived by her husband, Alan Brehm, as well as her mother, eight sisters and four brothers.
Services will be private, with a celebration of life service to be held at a later date. McAlister-Smith's West Ashley Chapel is handling the arrangements.
