CHAPLAIN'S CORNER: A recipe for happiness

I grew up hearing this hymn written by Presbyterian minister John H. Sammis in 1887. He penned the lyrics after learning about a young man’s words during a testimony service. The man stood and simply stated, “I am not quite sure, but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.” I recently took a new look at this old hymn and decided that it contains a recipe for happiness: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” “Lord Almighty, how happy are those who trust in you” (Psalm 84:12).
