Adventure Camp 2020 is in its 10th and final week at the North Augusta Community Center. The total participation this summer for Adventure Camp is 205. A shout out is due for Camp Directors J.R. Williams and Mandy Nelson and Camp Counselors Stella Harrell, Alex Kinard, Carly Knotts, Peyton Spaulding, Bryce Williamson, Abigail Williamson and Jackson Wray. Our Adventure Camp staff has done an outstanding job of following the South Carolina Recreation & Parks Association and AccelerateSC guidelines in operating summer camp 2020.

This week I will continue to highlight members of the North Augusta PRT staff who help make North Augusta a better place to live, work and play. Our spotlight in this column will shine on center coordinators that work the Activities Center and Community Center for the North Augusta Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

Center Coordinator Patrick Yonce is responsible for the operations of the North Augusta Community Center. Patrick has over 28 years of experience working for the city. He started his career with the PRT Department as a maintenance worker at Riverview Park and by virtue of his work ethic and performance earned his promotion to center coordinator. Patrick is responsible for booking the facility, taking care of setting up the facility per the renter’s specifications and working the events as scheduled. In addition to these duties, Patrick also is very active in the cleaning of the facility and making repairs as needed. He takes great pride in keeping the Community Center safe and clean.

Center Coordinators Buddy Satcher and John Sherman both work the Riverview Park Activities Center and along with part-time center coordinators Julie Sparks, Derrick Nelson, Tyler King, and Craig Patillar, are the frontline employees for the facility. Their duties include welcoming and checking our customers in at the front desk, providing tours for potential members, signing up new members, accepting registration for all of our athletic programs, camps and classes. The coordinators also answer the main phone line into the Activities Center and do their best to answer a wide range of questions. Additional duties include enforcing the rules of the Activities Center, set-ups for meetings, and cleaning and securing the 120,000-square-foot facility at the end of each business day.

This staff of center coordinators are the customer service representatives of the Activities Center and Community Center. They work special events including weddings, school proms, parties, basketball tournaments, dog shows, cat shows and health fairs. Their work shifts include weekdays, weeknights and weekends. These employees know their roles and do an excellent job of performing their duties.

Fall sports registration for cheerleading, football, soccer and volleyball is underway at the Riverview Park Activities Center and online at Our staff will be following SCRPA and South Carolina High School League guidelines concerning cheerleading and football.
