Terdell Mealing has joined the staff of G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary and will serve as manager for the Aiken and Edgefield locations.
He is a native of Trenton and the son of Ellen Miles Mealing and the late Hezikiah Mealing, Jr. A 1997 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, he holds a bachelor of arts degree in instrumental music education from Charleston Southern University.
He has taught in the public schools Charleston, Berkeley, Georgetown and Kershaw counties where his students have continuously excelled in the field of music. During his first year of teaching, he was featured in School, Band, and Orchestra magazine as one of “50 Directors Who Make A Difference” while teaching at Berkeley High School in Berkeley County. He was voted Teacher of the Year in 2003 while serving as the director of music at Andrews High School in Georgetown County.
Mealing has always had a passion for funeral service, even as a child. In 2010, he joined the staff of Cooke Funeral Home, in Camden. He served a two-year apprenticeship under its owner, Anthony J. Cooke, beginning in 2013 and was licensed as a funeral director for the state of South Carolina in 2015.
Terdell joined the staff of Brown’s Funeral Home in Camden, in September 2015 and served as funeral director and office manager until joining the staff of G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary in June 2020.
Mealing holds memberships in the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, the South Carolina Morticians’ Association and the Sixth District Morticians’ Association. He has served in the roles of assistant secretary and secretary for the Sixth District Mortician’s Association and is currently governor of the Sixth District Morticians’ Association.
He looks forward to serving with dignity in the communities from whence he came.
