Travelers cope with security hurdles

A security officer, who would not give his name, and his working dog monitor the international arrivals area at Charleston International Airport on Monday.

North Charleston police believe they busted an auto chop shop operation with the arrest of a towing service owner.

Herman Leon Failey, 51, of Pleasant Hill Drive, Mount Pleasant, faces seven counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and three counts of property crime enhancement.

Police located numerous stolen vehicles at Failey’s business, Economy Towing, 2038 Baker St., North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

He said Failey, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in Thursday.

Failey will have a bond hearing Friday.

The investigation is ongoing, and there may be additional charges, Pryor said.
