U.S. Marshals have arrested a North Charleston murder suspect in Atlanta.
Chad Cohen, 20, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon as part of a collaborative effort between North Charleston police and the Marshals service. He is one of three suspects charged with murder in the death of 32-year-old James Murphy. Murphy was found lying on the sidewalk in front of an apartment on 1902 Iris St. on Feb. 27.
Authorities said Murphy had been in some type of fight with several people earlier in the day.
North Charleston police already have arrested Cohen’s brother, 23-year-old Randall Lamark Cohen, of James Island and Tiwana Choice, 38, of North Charleston. Both were taken into custody earlier this month.
The search continued for Chad Cohen. Authorities say they received a tip that he fled to Atlanta. Investigators contacted marshals there who took him into custody, along with three other fugitives, without incident.
He is being held in the Dekalb County Jail awaiting extradition to South Carolina.
“A lot of hard work and collaboration went into this arrest, as is shown in Mr. Cohen’s capture,” Kelvin Washington, the U.S. Marshal for South Carolina said in a statement. “The U.S. Marshals and our partnered agencies never give up, so this arrest should be a warning to those out there thinking of running from the law. If you run, we will follow. If you hide, we will find you.”
