AIKEN — Authorities say they aren’t charging the guardian of a 10-year-old Aiken trick-or-treater who pulled a 9-mm handgun on a woman who joked she’d steal his candy on Halloween.
The Aiken Standard reported Wednesday that police are working on the case with local prosecutors and the Department of Social Services but aren’t charging anyone with a crime.
A 28-year-old woman told police she recognized some youngsters on Halloween night and joked she’d take their candy. Police say a 10-year-old in the group said no and pointed the handgun at her.
Police the gun wasn’t loaded but the boy had ammunition. The boy’s 10-year-old brother told officials he also had a gun, and both weapons were recovered by police.
Police say the boys got them from their grandfather without his permission.
