Post and Courier - Today's Real Estate Headlines

Location, location, location

Housing costs continue to rise in the Charleston area, which has led those looking to spend less looking for creative solutions. Public-private partnerships have developed properties lower income people can purchase. Others have looked for homes far beyond West Ashley in the countryside.

Small towns off U.S. Highway 17 South in Charleston and lower Dorchester counties are attractive to some because housing prices in these areas tend to be lower than in other parts of metro Charleston. But prices have still shot up close to 60 percent in the past five years, according to Charleston Trident Association of Realtors figures.

But in small towns, shoppers can find deals they’d never dream of in Charleston, like older houses on large acreages, close to thoroughfares in established neighborhoods. Or they can find new homes in communities with amenities like boat landings and equestrian centers.

Oh, and merry Christmas!
