20-year-old charged in armed robbery

A 20-year-old Charleston man is accused of using a handgun to take a cellphone and wallet from another man in a June 24 robbery.

Cornelius Robert Jenkins Jr. of Byron Road is charged with armed robbery, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said. Jenkins was being held in the Cannon Detention Center on $100,000 bail set Saturday by Charleston County Magistrate Priscilla Baldwin.

Police arrested Jenkins on Friday, Francis said.

The robbery took place on Tall Oak Avenue about 11:45 p.m. as the victim walked to his car, Francis said.
