An 8-year-old boy was injured Tuesday when he tried to stop an assault on his mother, according to North Charleston police.

About 3 p.m., officers were called to an apartment on Lambs Road for a reported domestic dispute, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The victim told police she and her husband were arguing and he struck her. Her son tried to stop the fight and her husband shoved the boy away, Pryor said. The boy fell and struck his head, which caused a cut on his forehead. The woman’s husband began tending to the boy’s injuries so the woman ran from the apartment and called police.

Once the man realized police had been called, he ran away, Pryor said. Police searched the area for him but were unable to find him.

The woman was treated on the scene by EMS but the boy was taken to Medical University Hospital for evaluation, Pryor said.

Pryor did not release the suspect’s identity. He said warrants were being obtained for third-offense criminal domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child.
