Ridgeville -- A 63-year-old woman died Thursday when she failed to yield the right of way and was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of U.S. Highway 78 and Campbell Thicket Road, according to Cpl. Paul Brouthers of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The woman was driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser and making a left turn onto U.S. 78.
A 41-year-old woman who was driving west in the 18-wheeler struck the cruiser, Brouthers said.
The woman driving the cruiser died at the scene, he said. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported by air to Medical University Hospital.
The names of both drivers were not available Thursday evening.
No charges have been filed because the driver of the Toyota contributed to the collision, Brouthers said.
