An Anderson mother drowned Sunday in Lake Hartwell while on a picnic with her boyfriend and another couple, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore told the Greenville News.
Christine Lee Izon, 35, was in water up to her neck when she raised her hands twice, went under and never came back up, Shore said. Her boyfriend swam out and tried to find her but couldn't, Shore said.
It happened off an island near Broyles Landing about 12:15 p.m., Shore said. Izon's body was recovered more than an hour later, he said.
She leaves behind a 3-year-old, who was not with her on the picnic, Shore said.
Anderson County sheriff's deputes, the state Department of Natural Resources and the Coroner's Office are investigating, he said.
