The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified a mo-ped rider killed in a traffic fatality late Tuesday night as 19-year-old Paulesha Polite of Charleston.

The southbound lanes of Rivers Avenue in front of Trident Technical College in North Charleston were closed for about an hour following the accident.

Polite was struck from behind by a pickup truck, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck came about two months after 57-year-old Gary Stephens of West Ashley died when a truck knocked him off his mo-ped and then ran over him.

That collision happened about 6:20 p.m. May 8 at King and Line streets in downtown Charleston.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said a heavy work truck was traveling south on King Street and making a left turn onto Line Street, when it collided with the mo-ped.
