A Florida woman is accused of using a pellet gun to steal painkillers Wednesday from a North Charleston pharmacy.
Jackie C. Anderson, 42, also known as Jacquelyn C. Kelly, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., is charged with armed robbery, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. She was being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
About 11 a.m., police were called to Walgreens at 8395 Dorchester Road for a reported robbery.
Employees told officers a woman entered the store and went to the pharmacy, where she showed the clerk a handgun and a note demanding prescription drugs, Pryor said.
The employees alerted police and were able to stall the woman until officers arrived, Pryor said.
After setting up a perimeter around the store, police took the woman into custody. Pryor said the woman had demanded painkillers, and the weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Anderson may have been involved in similar robberies elsewhere in the state, and in North Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee, Pryor said.
