A woman was burned early Tuesday during a fire that ripped through her home in a remote area southwest of Ridgeville.

About 3:50 a.m., firefighters were called to 398 Four Holes Road, a narrow dirt roadway south of Wire Road. The blaze destroyed the home and killed two dogs, firefighters said.

The woman who was burned was treated at the scene, then taken by helicopter to a burn center in Augusta, according to Doug Warren, director of Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services.

What caused the blaze and whether the woman's burns were life-threatening were not known Tuesday night.
