The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has issued warrants for a man who allegedly fled on foot from a traffic stop, leaving behind his 3-year-old child, a gun, cocaine and marijuana.
One man was arrested at the April 26 incident on S.C. Highway 311, in the Cross area, sheriff’s spokesman Dan Moon said Tuesday.
He said the Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit pursued a car that deputies said was speeding and had crossed a double yellow line. The driver pulled the car onto a dirt road, stopped in the backyard of a residence, jumped out and fled, Moon said.
Left behind in the vehicle were a passenger, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, a handgun and the driver’s unrestrained child, Moon said.
The passenger, Tremaine Jerome White, 26, of Eutawville, was charged with trafficking cocaine and cocaine base, and simple possession of marijuana.
Moon said 13 warrants have been issued for the driver, Jonathan Latrelle Jamison 27, of Eutawville. The charges include child endangerment, child restraint violation, felon in possession of a weapon during a violent crime, driving under suspension, evading arrest, trafficking cocaine base, trafficking cocaine, and failure to stop for a blue light and siren, he said.
He said the child was not hurt and was taken into custody by the Department of Social Services.
Anyone knowing Jonathan Jamison’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 719-4412 or Crimestoppers at 554-1111.
