A Wadmalaw Island woman was hospitalized after being injured in a hit-and-run accident Monday on Bears Bluff Road, authorities said.
Neighbors said Cynthia Heyward might have been walking at the edge of the road about 8:45 p.m. when injured.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office said the woman was struck by the side mirror of a passing truck.
The truck operator did not stop, but may not have realized someone was struck, Maj. Jim Brady said. He said the truck has not been found.
Heyward was taken to Medical University Hospital, where a spokeswoman said she was in fair condition late Tuesday.
