Traffic returned to normal after Vice President Joe

Biden’s motorcade left the James A. McAlister Funeral Home on Savannah Highway. Traffic was delayed while the motorcade moved from the airport to West Ashley during the afternoon rush hour window and then back to the airport.

Biden, a close friend of former U.S. Sen. Fritz Hollings, attended visitation services for the senator’s wife Peatsy, who passed away Sunday.

The vice president did not make a statement during the service, but he spent about 40 minutes speaking privately with Sen. Hollings and his family.

Biden’s visit to Charleston comes after he attended the funeral of former Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania earlier today.

Biden had close relationships with Hollings and former senator Strom Thurmond when he served as a U.S. senator from Delaware.
