Volunteers from the Lowcountry chapter of the American Red Cross are among those helping the victims affected by the fire.

Seven volunteers from the Charleston area arrived at the scene on Sunday and are assisting with the relief effort, health services and handing out food, according to Lexie Leyman, the organization’s workplace giving manager.

The Red Cross opened a shelter at Ocean Bay Middle School in Myrtle Beach for residents displaced by the fire. By Sunday afternoon, 167 residents had checked into the shelter.
