Two men were convicted last week of murder and sentenced to 50 years behind bars for a 2015 shootout in North Charleston's Park Circle.
After a week-long joint trial, a jury deliberated for three hours Friday and found West Ashley residents Justin Martel Wilson, 23, and Marvin Donte Bryan, 30, guilty of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson handed down their prison terms. Assistant Solicitor Culver Kidd led the prosecution of the case.
Keith Lamont Evans Jr., 23, and Daqjan Henry Gilliard, 22, still face a murder charge in the shooting, but they both testified against Wilson and Bryan. Dominique Lavar Edwards, 26, also faces a count of being an accessory after murder.
Investigators said they killed Franklin Othell Williams Jr., 28, in a retaliatory act of violence between feuding groups.
While all were alleged to have played a role in the crime, Wilson was implicated during the trial as the shooter.
Bryan's attorney, Bentley Price of West Ashley, said his client was disappointed that Bryan got the same sentence as Wilson. He will appeal, Price said.
"He didn't think that was overly fair," Price said. "But he accepts the jury's verdict, and he will move forward."
About 2 a.m. Nov. 22, 2015, the men were riding in a Ford when they noticed a Dodge outside a Dorchester Road gas station, the North Charleston Police Department said. They followed the car for a while, then someone in the Ford started shooting with a military-style rifle.
After both vehicles crashed into a wooden barrier in Park Circle, the men ran from the Ford.
Williams was found dead in the Dodge. At least two other people were shot but survived.
Evans, the driver, was the first to be arrested and soon gave investigators his account of the crime.
While testimony pointed to Wilson as the shooter, his attorney, Mark Peper, said no physical evidence proved that. Other evidence indicated that he was in the car.
The law allows everyone involved in a crime to be charged with murder if a death results.
Wilson also plans to appeal.
