The S.C. Department of Transportation recently named TriCounty Link the best rural public transportation provider of 2010.

The award was presented by Glennith Johnson, SCDOT's deputy secretary for mass transit, at the 2010 Transportation Association of South Carolina conference.

In addition to implementing a weekly and monthly pass program, TriCounty Link also conducted a thorough route structure review and updated routes to be more efficient and to better serve area communities. New brochures with maps and schedules were printed to reflect route changes.

In 2009, it implemented an innovative training program for drivers by purchasing and converting a 1995 model bus for use as a dedicated training vehicle.

From July 2009 through March 2010, TriCounty Link ridership increased 39 percent.
