Traffic is moving again after a vehicle plowed into a deputy’s cruiser near Folly Beach at about 5 p.m. today, triggering a five-car collision, officials said. Minor injuries were reported.

The wreck happened at about 5 p.m., near the Mariners Cay condominium complex, said Major Jim Brady of the Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy stopped in traffic while leaving Folly Beach was rear-ended by another vehicle, causing the deputy’s vehicle to strike another, Brady said. Two other vehicles also were involved.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident. One lane was shut down leaving Folly Beach and traffic was being alternated, Brady said.
